…even though I loathe mornings!

Y’all seriously one of my biggest flaws is how much I hate morning. I always have! I am an “I need eight hours of sleep” kind of person, and with two kids, that’s pretty much impossible. Not getting enough sleep and just really not being a morning person anyway makes for a chaotic morning if I don’t prepare the night before. So, that’s exactly what I do–prepare!
The night before, when my littles are tucked in tight and snoozing away, I begin making sure everything is on track for the next day. I make sure everything is cleaned up from supper and begin making breakfast for the next day. That includes yogurt, some type of fruit, and sometimes a scrambled egg. Allie Beth likes plain Greek Yogurt with Nesquick mixed in for flavor. I grab a bowl, spoon in some yogurt and Nesquick give it a stir, add the lid and plop it into the fridge for the morning.
Afterwards, I prep fruit for the next day. Our go-tos are a banana, strawberries, grapes, blueberries, and occasionally watermelon/cantaloupe in the summer. Bananas don’t require any work other than peeling right before I give it to her. She’s big enough now to just pick it up and eat it. If your child is smaller, quickly cut it up just before serving. For grapes or blueberries, I give them a good wash, and toss them in a bowl with a lid. For strawberries, I wash and quarter them before tossing into a bowl and watermelon or cantaloupe just needs to be cubed and thrown in the bowl with a lid. Then refrigerate until the next morning.
Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids Containers work perfect for this. They take up very little space in the cabinet because the lids lock into one another and the stack of bowls sits right on top of them. When I’m ready to use them, I grab a few bowls, a few lids underneath them, add in my breakfast food, snap the lid on and toss in the fridge. Not only do they save space in the cabinet, but also in the refrigerator as they stack perfectly on top of one another.

Once breakfast is prepped for the next day, I check the weather, and pick out everyone’s clothes for the next day accordingly! This cuts out arguing with my toddler about what she is going to where because it is already laid out and ready. She can (for the most part) dress herself in the clothes I have laid out, while I dress her sister. I can have both girls dressed for the day in no time. I also pick out my clothes the night before. Once the girls are dressed, I get dressed. Even if we aren’t going anywhere, we get dressed each day. It helps to get over my morning slump and start the day productively.
Just before bed, I do a quick run through and pick up the house. This helps me not to fill so stressed in the mornings. When I wake up to a clean house, I feel ahead of the day. But, if I wake up to a mess, I feel stressed and defeated, which negatively affects the rest of my day.
So, tell me, do you have a night routine that sets you up for success the following day?
